In 2013 Waze successfully became the traffic data supplier for the Centro de Operações Prefeitura do Rio (COR), the traffic control center of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Waze API creates a shortcut between emergency services and Rio's drivers who use Waze to alert others of hazards, road conditions and traffic. Rio has relied heavily on the Waze platform to keep the city running during major events like the World Cup and the upcoming Olympics.
Waze could bring the future for more efficient municipalities. On October 1, Waze will share their ambitions by announcing their Connected Citizens global initiative and its inaugural class, the W10. The W10 are the first 10 cities/states whom Waze has empowered to serve their citizens on a connected level.
