Some great thoughts on myspace
danah boyd, who I met at a good friend’s wedding last year, is officially one of the coolest people I know now. I hate MySpace for many reasons (ghetto-ass design, for example), but with all the hype about sexual predators and teens, it’s worth reading her February draft paper. I mentioned some of this on podcast #012, so check it out if you’re interested.
White Woman Teaches Cripple to Beatbox at SXSW
A fun video clip I shot at SXSW of surprisingly talented musician, Rachel Platten and her last-minute sidekick, Dave Modigliano.
Irina Slutsky over at GeekEntertainmentTV interviewed me at SXSWi after a panel on "Blogging While Black." It’s an honor to be featured with the likes of Lynne D. Johnson and George Kelly. Check out the opening question.
(21 March 2006) Check out WMFO’s Gods & Goddesses Wednesday March 22 5-7pm Eastern to hear Baratunde on Tufts University radio. They have a live stream on the web and in iTunes. It’ll be fun.
Right Wing radio had me fooled
Today I left Austin, TX on my long journey home to Boston. It can’t be a simple flight because my life isn’t simple. The return requires a stop in San Antonio and then New York and then I rush to a radio interview in Boston Wednesday evening. Anyway, I was driving South on 1-35 in my rental car (BTW in Texas, "Intermediate Sedan" means "GiNormous Ford F-five-billion pickup truck" when you translate it into Chicken Fried English), and I turned on AM radio.

I can’t believe I forgot this, but I met one of the people behind blackpeopleloveus.com. For years I’ve used them as a comedy writing credit on my resume since they posted one of my testimonials (people still contact me about that). If you somehow missed the Internet over the past five years, be sure to check out their site. Good work, Josh! BTW, Josh is on to new things at FireAnt.tv
So I’ve been in Texas over a week, the cops haven’t arrested me, hillbillies haven’t dragged me behind their truck, and the governor hasn’t executed me. I’d say it’s a good week for a black man in Texas! Just a quick check in from SXSW. The geeks have left and the musicians and leeches (music biz people) have moved in with their faux-hawks, precisely ripped jeans and homeless-man beards. I’m havin fun and will check in with you good people lata! Gotta eat, man. Gotta eat.
(14 March 2006) Baratunde has t-shirts for sale!!! Thanks to the folks at goodstorm, you can support your favorite comedian and author. Check out “Viva la Evolution” now at Baratunde’s Corner Store.
I’m not carrying my laptop around, so I can’t post on the fly and haven’t installed the plugin which lets me email them in. That means I have more time to pay attention though. Sunday made the whole trip worth it.
