Walmart was charged with violating child labor laws. The company settled out of court, agreeing never to employ children again, preferring instead to sell them at unbelievably low prices.

Facebook Will Merge Your Group And Page To Make Poups!!

In a landmark decision, Facebook now allows normal group owners to have their Facebook Groups merged into their Facebook Pages. I heard about this on Inside Facebook a few weeks ago but wanted to verify that it worked for me. It does!

Some of you will remember my very public bitchin about Facebook Groups vs. Pages from back in December. I spoke at the Web Community Forum thanks to an invite from the wonderful Teresa Valdez Klein. It seemed then and up till a few weeks ago that Facebook didn’t really know what to do about the discrepancy between group and page functionality. Things got so testy, we actually started a Page to complain about the problems with Groups vs. Pages

About a month ago, they started moving sponsored groups over to pages, but when I asked if they’d do it for me, they were all, “No, you’re not Apple. Go back to your fragmented and confusing world!”

Now they’ve come around.

here’s what you do

voila!

My stats are still broken on the “Ads and Pages” dashboard, but that’s less important right now.

Check out my Page and become a fan! A GRAND UNIFIED FAN.

Johnny “Come Lately” Edwards To Endorse Democratic Nominee

cross-posted to jack and jill politics

While Politico, TIME and others. are running headlines that say “Edwards Endorses Obama,” I think mine is better.

My initial reaction was:

about friggin time dude. where you waiting for hillary to come out in blackface and campaign for mccain?

There’s nothing particularly impressive about his decision. After all, he’s coming out even after the mainstream media has concluded that the race is over. So it’s not so much an endorsement as it is the only possible thing to do.

I’m a bit harsh on people who lead after the fact. Your decision means more to me when I feel like you made it in a difficult environment. It’s one of the reasons I’m so critical of Hillary’s Iraq War vote. She made the easy decision to go along with a popular president and look “strong.” The truly strong decision would have been to stand up when few others did.

The Difference Between Screen Capture and Webpage Capture…

…and why I love Paparazzi

I’ve been having a Twitter conversation about the challenge of capturing an entire webpage into a single image file. I used to use a tool called Saft which exports entire webpages into PDFs, but since the Safari 3 updates, Saft has gotten increasingly flaky. Because it relies on PDF output, it often triggers the “printer-friendly” rendering of a webpage rather than creating a PDF of what you actually see.

Several people wrote me back in response to my quest basically saying, “why don’t you use the screen capture tool?” The short answer is “because I need more than a screen-ful of information. I need a page.”

More below with images to show what I mean. I have found the best tool so far though, and it’s called Paparazzi. Mac only

Using Apple’s built in COMMAND+SHIFT+4 I can only capture what fits inside my browser window, NOT the entire page.

The following is an example, with the raw image file coming in at 994 x 836 pixels

With Paparazzi I can grab the entire, long page, not just what I can see on my monitor at any given time. The following complete image comes in at 967 x 2137 pixels. That’s more than double the height of the screen capture tool in OS X

My 1st Onion Headline Published: Obama Voicemail Message Not That Inspiring

This is a great day! One of the best parts of working at the Onion is being on the editorial staff and actually writing headlines. After months of intensive study and Zen-like devotion to the craft, one of my headlines has actually made it through the comedic fires and come out the other side as a piece for Onion Radio News.

And just to clarify, I only did the headline. Others wrote and recorded the segment. It’s a very collaborative environment around here.

College Dem Superdelegates Endorse Obama

Pretty cool. These College Democrat leaders asked college folk who they should endorse using a combination of YouTube and Facebook. The response was strong and overwhelmingly in support of Senator Obama. Hope the other superdelegates come around soon as well.

YouTube Interviews Ralph Nader

I’ll be honest. I got issues with Ralph. I don’t blame him for the 2000 election. I blame the voters.

More seriously, I question whether running for president is the best way to bring about the radical change he wants. His premise is that his campaigns (because they surely will not become actual presidencies) help promote issues and move the debate.

Really? So over the last eight years, America has been engaged in a more honest discussion of war-making and corporate malfeasance than before? That I don’t buy.

There are some cool moments in the interview, though, and Olivia Ma of YouTube does a good job keeping it moving. I actually like the “silent” questionnaire at the end. Perhaps it’s because I’m just tired of hearing Nader speak.

I Am About To Give $25 To Obama. So Should You

Just Do It. Even $10 will help. I don’t have much money left to give, but I’m still hustling. There’s a lot of work left to get through the primary, not to mention John McCain.
